Today, I learned about Alabama animals from Ruffner Mountain Nature Center. The first animal I saw was a green tree frog. The tree frog was in a box so it wouldn’t jump out. The frog was sticking on the side of the box. I got to see the frog up close. The next animal I saw was an Eastern Box Turtle named Romeo. I got to touch it and see it up close too. Its shell felt hard. Romeo didn’t want to come out of his shell. The animal after that was a corn snake called Corny Collins. The snake was really long. When I touched its skin, it felt scaly and cold. It was cold because it was cold outside and corn snakes change to match the temperature where they are. He stuck his tongue out to smell us. The last animal I saw was a screech owl named Talulu. The owl had big eyes, but its body was only about 6 inches tall. The owl couldn’t fly because it had a leash on its foot so he would stay safe. I didn’t get to touch the owl because it would’ve flown away and gotten hurt. This was an awesome experience with Ruffner Mountain Nature Center.
